Default Why don't Gaming Companies use SD/microSD cards instead of CD/DVD?

I mean it's pretty straight-forward that SD cards alone are much smaller and harder to damage (if CDs get a bad scratch it's over)

I appreciate the fact that SD readers aren't exactely the norm, but the data transfer is acceptable and as i said they are more durable imo.

Just a thought though.

Because they have to cater to the least common denominator, which is CD/DVD at the moment. SD might be a better option all the way around, but you won't see it until it is much more widespread.

It's about the money, a DvD or CD doesnt cost more than a dollar to produce. While a 4 gb sd-card comes close to 50 euro in stores, I believe.

You can buy a spindle of blank CDs/DVDs, which breaks down to like $0.25 US. When they're being made by the 1000's, it only gets cheaper. Remember, the big cost is development and marketing/advertising. To release the game on an SD card would be much more expensive. Not only that, but having an SD card reader is not a standard part of computers nowadays. It would be neat as a collectors edition type of thing, but not as a replacement for CDs/DVDs.
